Alfuzosin is an oral medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as alpha-blockers. It is primarily used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition characterised by an enlarged prostate gland. Alfuzosin is an alpha-blocker medication that is used to help treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as BPH. BPH is a common condition that affects the prostate gland in men. It causes the prostate gland to enlarge which can cause urinary issues in men.

Alfuzosin Hydrochloride

Alfuzosin belongs to a group of medications known as alpha-blockers. This medication works by relaxing the prostate gland muscle, in turn relieving the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH. It contains the active ingredient alfuzosin hydrochloride.

You should always use your medication as it has been prescribed to you. The first dose of Alfuzosin is typically administered just before bedtime in adults under the age of 16. For adults over the age of 65, they should take their medication once in the morning and once in the evening.

You should only ever use the dosage of Alfuzosin that has been prescribed to you by your healthcare provider. Usually, the daily dosage for use is one tablet taken three times a day. The maximum daily dosage of Alfuzosin is four tablets a day. For someone over the age of 65, they will typically need to take two tablets a day. 

Alfuzosin is a suitable medication for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men over the age of 16 years old. 

Alfuzosin may not be a suitable treatment for some people. This medication is for strictly men only. Alfuzosin should also not be used by anyone who is allergic to any of the ingredients in the medication. This medication should not be used by anyone under the age of 16 years old. Do not use Alfuzosin if:

  • You are using other alpha-blockers
  • You have postural hypotension
  • You have liver problems

It is important that you let your healthcare provider know of any other medications you may be using alongside Alfuzosin. Do not use Alfuzosin if you are using other alpha-blockers, including:

  • Doxazosin
  • Indoramin
  • Prazosin
  • Terazosin
  • Tamsulosin
  • Phenoxybenzamine.

As with all other medications, some users may experience side effects when they are using Alfuzosin. Some of the most common side effects include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Weakness or tiredness
  • Diarrhoea
  • Stomach pain
  • Dry mouth
  • Vomiting
