    How does Finasteride work?

In a lot of men, the use and efficiency of Finasteride varies depending on their medical condition, age, health, and response to treatment. For some, it can take longer; some respond and obtain better results from the drug immediately. It is crucial that you always remain optimistic. However, for patients who have been taking and relying on the medication for over twelve months or almost a year and there are no visible improvements found from the treatment, it is very unlikely that it will work at all.

    Hair loss, Alopecia, and Finasteride

AGA or otherwise known as Androgenetic Alopecia is a medical condition where there appears a hair loss pattern that is found to be hereditary and where the remaining hairs turned into tiny vellus hairs. This kind of hair loss is widespread and very typical. About 85% of white Caucasian men and 60% of women have alopecia by the time reach the age of 70 years old.

Nevertheless, those suffering from the condition show various patterns of hair loss regardless of their gender. The men have the tendency to experience thinning of hair around the scalp vertex and the frontal scalp area. Women on the other hand, would show hair thinning around their central scalp. These hair losses are seen to result in emotional distress and impact the way of life of the sufferer, prompting them to seek viable treatments. Oftentimes, they would use finasteride. Finasteride is a medication from the category 5AR or 5 Alpha Reductase, which is usually utilised in promoting hair regrowth and inhibit further hair loss among patients.

Finasteride prevents the conversion of testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. DHT is responsible in the development of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). It is also helpful in treating male pattern hair loss in men. It helps shrink the prostate gland among patients with BPH and aid them with their urinary problems such as having to pass urine frequently, but there is a weak flow of urine when you feel you have to go. The medicine is also useful in decreasing the risk of developing acute urinary retention or the inability to pass urine, which can eventually require surgery. Finasteride is for use with male patients only. If you struggle with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) a product such as Alfuzosin may be perfect for you.

How does it work & what is it used for?

Finasteride is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor drug. It works by effectively blocking the action of the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme in the body. This enzyme converts the male hormone testosterone into DHT.

As men age, the prostate glands are prone to getting enlarged, this is the result of the testosterone to DHT conversion in the prostate gland. By effectively blocking the 5-alpha reductase, the drug will prevent DHT formation and help shrink the size of the prostate of the patient. The prostate gland is an organ found only among male patients. It is found at the top of the male urethra, just under the bladder. The enlargement of the prostate gland leads it to press on the bladder and urethra and result in difficulty passing urine coupled with the increased need to urinate, especially in the evening. By shrinking the patient’s prostate, Finasteride is able to decrease the pressure on the urethra and the bladder and enable urine to flow freely to the urethra past the prostate gland.
