Things not to do during the COVID-19 outbreak

As the country goes into a stricter lockdown, people all over the UK are looking for ways to protect themselves from coronavirus. As well as keeping your immune system strong (you can find ways to do that in our previous blog post), there are also a number of things you shouldn’t be doing during this pandemic.

Don’t stop taking your regular medications

If you take regular medicines for underlying health conditions then it’s important that you don’t stop taking these unless told to by a doctor. There have been some stories going around about coronavirus and NSAIDs (which we cleared up in this blog post), but it’s important that you take the advice of medical professionals and never act on your own healthcare from things you’ve read online.

    Don’t smoke

Because COVID-19 is a respiratory disease, one of the main symptoms is shortness of breath. This is why those who already have reduced lung function (such as people with asthma), are part of the higher risk population.

So naturally, it’s important to look after your respiratory health as much as possible. If you’re a smoker then you should definitely try and quit. If going cold turkey hasn’t worked then we have effective smoking cessation medications and remedies to help you quit for good.

Don’t wear multiple masks at once

The wearing of respirator masks can help to prevent the spread of coronavirus as they can block possibly infected droplets and mucus from reaching the respiratory system. However, you shouldn’t wear more than one mask at a time. Not only is this ineffective, but it also means that there are fewer masks for others who may also need them.

If you’re wanting to get a face mask to help to protect yourself and your family, we have FFP2 masks in stock.

    Don’t try taking antibiotics

Many people mistakenly believe that antibiotics are a cure-all for ailments, infections and diseases. But in actual fact, antibiotics only work against illnesses caused by bacteria - they are not effective against viruses.

Viruses such as COVID-19, rely on your own immune system to fight it off. While there are medications available to treat symptoms of viruses (such as cold and flu remedies), the actual cure comes from your body building antibodies to fight the infection.

It’s important that if you have a virus, not to take antibiotics. Not only will they not be effective, but taking antibiotics when you don’t need them could make them ineffective in the future when you actually do need them.

    Don’t panic

Not only is panic buying rife but there is a general sense of worry in the air. Although it’s a confusing time, it’s important to try and stay positive to maintain your mental health.

As for the panic buying; there is no evidence to suggest that we’re going to experience shortages of food or other supplies. Be sensible, be mindful of others and only buy what you need.

    Don’t ignore government advice

As the government continues to provide the latest advice, guidelines and restrictions, it’s important that you don’t ignore this. These are put in place for the safety of yourself and others and to protect our healthcare service and staff.

Although we know that lockdown may not be a lot of fun, it’s what’s best for everyone’s health and we must work together. And thankfully, we’re here to help you get the prescription medications that you require, without the need to leave the house. Simply fill out an online consultation, complete the purchase of your approved treatment and wait for it to be delivered to your door.
