The active ingredient in Locoid Scalp Lotion is hydrocortisone butyrate. This is a corticosteroid medication that is in the form of a lotion. Locoid Scalp Lotion helps to reduce the inflammation caused by different scallop condition, as well as reducing itching and redness. 

The best way to use Locoid Scalp Lotion is to apply a thin layer of medication, massaged gently into the affected area, no more than twice a day. 

Typically, the correct dosage of Locoid Scalp Lotion is a thin layer of medication applied to the affected area no more than twice a day. If your condition does not improve you should speak to your healthcare provider for further advice. 

Locoid Scalp Lotion can be used by adults, the elderly and children over the age of 3 months that are in need of treatment for different scalp conditions. 

Firstly, children under the age of 3 months should not use Locoid Scalp Lotion. Children should also not use this medication as a long-term solution. The maximum amount of time for a child to use this medication is 7 days. You may wish to consider speaking to your doctor if any of the following applies to you: 

  • You are allergic to hydrocortisone butyrate
  • Your condition is caused by untreated viral, bacterial, fungal, yeast or parasitic infections
  • You have skin problems associated with tuberculosis or syphilis
  • You have acne
  • You have redness of the facial skin
  • You are treating other areas of the scalp

Unless you are told directly by your doctor, you should avoid using Locoid Scalp Lotion if you are pregnant. There may be a small risk of harm to your baby if you use any corticosteroid medication whilst pregnant.
