More Information

Movicol is medicine used to treat constipation and the discomfort associated with it. It comes in sachets of dissolvable powder for easy use.

For more information on the prescription medication patients should refer to the Movicol Sachets patient information leaflet.

Movicol contains a laxative, to increase the function of your bowel and digestive system to encourage your body to pass a stool.

Everyone gets constipated occasionally and while it may not be a dangerous ailment, it is an uncomfortable one. Constipation can lead to bloating, stomach ache, trapped wind and cramps, so to treat it quickly and efficiently with Movicol is to get yourself feeling back to normal quickly.

Always follow the guidance given in the enclosed patient information leaflet and be sure to read it before commencing use of the medicine.

Open a Movicol sachet and pour the contents into a glass. Add approximately 125ml of water to the glass and stir well until all of the powder has dissolved and the solution is virtually clear. Drink the contents of the glass.

The recommended dose of Movicol for constipation is 1 sachet (dissolved in water as detailed above) 1 to 3 times a day, depending on the severity of constipation. Continue with this dose for around 2 weeks or until the constipation has passed.

If after 2 weeks of treatment using Movicol you are still constipated then you should see a doctor.

If you take more Movicol than you should then you may experience diarrhoea and subsequent dehydration because of it. If this happens, stop taking Movicol and drink plenty of water. If you are worried then you should contact a doctor.

If you forget to take Movicol then take the next dose as soon as you remember.

Before taking this medication, you should always first check that it is suitable for you and any of your associated medical conditions. Do not take Movicol if you have:

  • a blockage in your intestine (gut obstruction, paralysis of the intestine (ileus))
  • a perforated gut wall
  • severe inflammatory bowel disease like ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease or toxic megacolon
  • an allergy to the active substances of Movicol

Because of the way that medications interact with each other, you should talk to a doctor before taking Movicol if you are already taking any of the following medications:

  • anti-epileptics

When taking Movicol, you should continue to consume plenty of fluids (your daily recommended amount). The fluid taken as part of administering Movicol does not replace the water you should otherwise be drinking.

The most common side effects of Movicol are:

  • stomach ache or rumbles
  • bloating,
  • suffer from wind,
  • feel sick or vomit
  • soreness of the anus (bottom)
  • mild diarrhoea

You should cease using Movicol immediately and contact your doctor if you experience any serious side effects or if you notice signs of an allergic reaction.

You can safely buy Movicol online at UK Meds, without the need for a prescription or consultation with a medical professional, however you should adhere to the advice given in the patient leaflet enclosed.
